Honk If You Want Me Off The Road
A video documentary anthropologist Sharon Roseman and I made as a kind of activist project because we were sick of complaining and doing nothing. St. John’s, where we live, has record snowfalls and pedestrians battle to get around the city in winter because the city only clears about 12% of its sidewalks and even those not very efficiently. We made the film in 2015 to document the growing activist movement through interviews with walkers and footage of what they endured as they struggled to move from place to place or gave up and became prisoners in their own homes. Since we made the film there have been significant improvements yet the situation is still dire for anyone who needs to get around safely without a car. We published a research article in 2025 with an update.
